Grandma Honey’s Recipe Box (#2)

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

I just love Lewis Carroll … Not that he has anything to do with my Grandma Honey! :) Although I’m quite sure he would’ve enjoyed eating at her table, Carroll was a pretty social guy and my Gram was vivacious and gregarious — and I have pictures to prove it (I’ll post some of them sometime).

I’m posting two more recipes today from her recipe box; a lemon pie recipe (that’s very old and cool) and her much-requested recipe for Pickled Peppers. Her pickled peppers were awesome, and the recipe is very adaptable, you can use pretty much any type of pepper (mild, sweet or hot).

Very old recipe for Lemon Pie, from my great-great grandma!

My Grandmother on my Mom’s side was named Mary, but my oldest sister christened her Grandma Honey at some point in her childhood — I didn’t realize until I was a year or two into grade school that Grandma Honey was just a nickname!

At any rate, the woman could COOK. Yup, capital letters cook — really that good. She passed a few years ago, and during a recent trip to my Grandpa’s to help him pack to move (in with one of his daughters — my aunt) I snagged her recipe box. It’s part of an informal project I have gong on to digitize as much of my family’s pictures and other “hard copy history” as I can…

Most of her recipes she carried in her head (good thing I learned as much as I did from her in the kitchen when I did!) but she had quite a slew of her “found” and exchanged recipes in her box, along with her most-requested recipes — they are all worthy of sharing, which I’ll be doing on an intermittent basis.

Enjoy!

One of my Grandpa's favorites!
